The 2026 Season
The Olde Kirk opens its doors every Sunday from Victoria Day through Labour Day. This summer brings a full calendar — a talk, a social, a film, a walk through sacred ground, an evening for the Scots, and a Victorian tea to close the season. Come for one. Come for all. There is always a reason to come back.

Season Kick-Off - May 24
The museum is open.
Step inside and find it changed. This season’s collection is built around the settler experience — what they carried, what they planted, what they believed. A battered steamer trunk. Cloth seed bags. A Gaelic bible and a clergyman’s companion, both published in Edinburgh, both carried across an ocean by someone who didn’t know what waited on the other side.

Marking 100 Years - June 7
Ten boys. One leader. A summer evening on Balsam Lake.
On July 20, 1926 — one hundred years ago this summer — fifteen young men set out from Long Point on Balsam Lake in a wooden war canoe bound for Coboconk. Before morning, eleven had perished.
Local historian Doug Paterson brings new research into this pivotal moment in Balsam Lake history — stories and details never before presented publicly, in advance of our July film screening of Brotherhood.

Brotherhood Movie - July 17
Eleven names. One night. A story that needed to be told.
On July 20, 1926, fifteen young men set out on Balsam Lake in a wooden war canoe. Before morning, eleven of them had perished. Brotherhood is the film that tells their story. Join us for a public screening of this powerful movie.

Lakeview Cemetery Walk - Aug 2
Lantern light. Founding names. Sacred ground.
The Old North Section of Lakeview Cemetery has been quietly holding the names of Kirkfield’s founding families since 1862. On an August evening, we walk among them. Guides. Lanterns. Stories drawn from the records. This is not a ghost tour. It is something quieter and more affecting than that.
Settler members and one guest attend free. All other members $20. General public $25. A second walk offered August 23.
Bring the Scots Back to the Kirk - August 16
An evening for the heritage. The clans are invited.
One hundred and ninety-seven years ago, 176 passengers sailed from Greenock and landed in Eldon Township. Their descendants scattered across the country and around the world — but the names are still here, in the land and in our records. This evening event gathers people with Scottish heritage back to the Kirk: a Gaelic moment, clan connections, and a celebration of the Scottish settlement that built this community.

Taste of Fall Tea - Sept. 27
The season’s finest send-off.
The Olde Kirk’s beloved Victorian Tea returns for another year — and if you were here last time, you already know. White tablecloths, fine company, and an afternoon that moves at the pace it deserves. Catered by Finding Joy.
